Communication Media & Rhetoric

Winsomely communicate stories and information with a well-rounded communications degree.

The communication majors respond to a much-needed area of study in our contemporary age. Many communication curriculums have abandoned the artistic imperative to produce communicable work that resonates with the human condition. At Geneva we have adopted a confessional aesthetic that recognizes the importance of personal and disciplined practice aiming to produce works that communicate what is true, good, and sensible.

Geneva's Communication curriculum equips you to thoughtfully and meaningfully engage your closest companions, your community and your professional calling.

The mission of the communication department is to enable students to gain the skills, insights, perspectives, and knowledge to become effective, competent, wise communicators as they represent Christ in their professions, communities, and families.

This mission rests on three premises:

  1. Communication is a gift from God.
  2. We are to be stewards and servants of these gifts.
  3. We are called to use communication creatively and compassionately to bridge differences of culture, embody servant leadership, and transform society for the kingdom of Christ.

Students majoring in communication will develop relational skills, transactional skills, critical thinking, and professional identity.

  1. Students will be able to develop an understanding of self and others to effectively communicate in a variety of relationships, settings, and situations.
  2. Students will be able to convey messages (written, oral, visual) clearly, concisely, and correctly. They will also be able to critically analyze the messages of others.
  3. Students will be able to develop critical thinking skills which will aid them in making rational choices in a variety of personal and professional circumstances.

Classes such as Interpersonal Communication, Communication Theory and Public Relations set the foundation for my success in securing an internship with the Department of State working with both US and Mexican diplomats to further the US foreign policy.
